Jim Bowes has chaired this annual effort 18 years.
This Newsies project dates to the 1970s and has been previously chaired by John Thompson and the late Bill Burnside and Fred Reed, among others.
In addition to Newsies “Back To School Clothing” efforts, on average, your Charity Newsies invest some $5,000.00 per month assisting families fallen victim to home fire for which Newsies provide emergency clothing, food and shelter. In unique circumstances Newsies may provide vouchers for food (Save A Lot, Lancaster) and other of life’s necessities to families whose bread winner has suffered an accident or illness. With Newsies broad community reach the organization may help with travel expenses, heating in winter and other needs.
To maximize learning, the Lancaster-Fairfield County Charity Newsies believe children must be properly fed, properly clothed and properly sheltered.
